Kathmandu: The Unity General Convention of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) began in the capital today, with calls for a unified NRNA.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the Unity General Convention organized by the NRNA High-Level Committee, former Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai said that although an individual may have political views NRNA should not carry narrow political views.
The right to citizenship for NRNs as guaranteed by the Constitution should be implemented, he said and stressed that NRNs should become united and come to invest in their motherland.
Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) leader Ashok Rai said that the government should immediately resolve the citizenship issue of NRNs.
Unity Convention Coordinator Dr Shesh Ghale said that this general convention held in accordance with the Supreme Court order would be a unity convention. He also emphasized that the NRNA should be restructured as it has not been able to reform for 22 years since its establishment.
At the program, members of the NRNA high-level committee, Devman Hirachan, Rajendra Kumar Sharma, Dr Keshav Poudel, Mahesh Shrestha, Rabina Thapa, Kul Acharya, Binod Kunwar, Janaki Gurung and others emphasized that everyone should make the unity convention a success.
