Detention of Oli, Lekhak not an act of revenge but of justice: Home Minister Gurung

This is not against anyone as revenge, it is merely the beginning of justice”, Minister Gurung wrote on Facebook.

Kathmandu: Minister for Home Affairs Sudhan Gurung said there is no one above the law.

He has clarified that detention of the then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak – who were implicated by the commission formed for inquiry into the September 8 Gen Z Uprising – for investigation is not an act of revenge.

“No one is above the law. We have taken into custody former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak. This is not against anyone as revenge, it is merely the beginning of justice”, Minister Gurung wrote on Facebook.

He also expressed confidence that the country will now take a new course. The first cabinet meeting of the newly-formed government led by Rastriya Swatantra Party’s senior leader, Balendra Shah, had decided to implement the recommendations of the probe commission chaired by former Justice Gauri Bahadur Karki to investigate the Gen Z movement.

The commission recommended actions against former Prime Minister Oli, former Home Minister Lekhak, and others in accordance with criminal law.

Acting on the recommendation, the police arrested Oli and Lekhak early this morning.
