KATHMANDU — Dr. Ramchandra Bhusal, President of the Nepal JICA Alumni Association (JAAN), has been elected President of the JICA Alumni Association Forum of SAARC Countries.
Dr. Bhusal was unanimously elected to the post following a three-day international conference titled “Japan’s Contribution to Social and Economic Development of South Asia,” held in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka.
Currently serving as President of JAAN, Dr. Bhusal had been the Secretary General of the JICA Alumni Association of the SAARC region from 2017 until his election to the presidency.
Representing Nepal at the conference, JAAN President Dr. Bhusal and Vice President Dr. Kiran Rupakheti presented Nepal’s initiatives and experiences, according to JAAN General Secretary Shantilaxmi Shakya. A six-member Nepali delegation, led by Dr. Bhusal, participated in the event.
Addressing the program, Japanese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Akiko Isomata highlighted the association’s role as an umbrella organization for the SAARC region, noting its significant contribution to strengthening friendly relations between Japan and SAARC countries while promoting social and economic development.
In his remarks, newly elected President Dr. Bhusal stated that Japan has been providing selfless, reliable, and sustainable support to the SAARC region. He emphasized that countries in South Asia can learn valuable lessons from Japan, particularly in integrity, accountability, discipline, punctuality, and hard work. The conference also featured presentations on activities carried out by JICA alumni across the SAARC region.
The JICA Alumni Association Forum of SAARC Countries was established in 2008 as an umbrella organization of JICA alumni in the region. Its secretariat has been based in Kathmandu since 2017.
