Kathmandu University to Host IT MEET 2025: Nepal’s Premier Tech Festival

Dhulikhel— Kathmandu University (KU) is gearing up for its annual flagship technology festival, IT MEET 2025, scheduled for December 26, 2025, at the university’s Dhulikhel campus. Organized by the Kathmandu University Computer Club (KUCC) in collaboration with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (DoCSE), the event aims to bridge the gap between academic theory and real-world industry practices.

The festival targets a diverse audience, including high school students, undergraduates, alumni, and industry professionals, providing a platform for networking, skill-building, and innovation. Building on the success of IT MEET 2024 — which attracted over 10,000 visitors and featured Nepal’s largest in-person hackathon — this year’s edition promises an even broader lineup of activities.

Pre-Events Build Anticipation

Leading up to the main event, several pre-events have already generated significant engagement:

  • EmpowerHer: A women-in-tech initiative that attracted more than 80 participants, with keynote sessions from prominent leaders such as Janaki Joshi of Devfinity Nepal and Minu Pradhan, former CTO of Nepal Telecom.
  • We Shield Cyber (December 21): A Capture The Flag (CTF) cybersecurity competition, accompanied by a panel discussion on digital elections involving experts from the Nepal Police Cyber Bureau and the Election Commission.
  • Gaming & Pitching (December 22): A gaming tournament drawing over 250 competitors vying for a prize pool of NPR 82,000, alongside an idea pitching competition won by Team Synaptic.

Highlight: KU HackFest 2025

The momentum continues with the ongoing KU HackFest 2025, a 48-hour hackathon running from December 24 to 26. With 161 registered teams tackling challenges in AI/ML, AR/VR, and blockchain, the event offers a prize pool exceeding NPR 250,000.

Main Day Highlights on December 26

The culmination on December 26 will feature a packed schedule at the KU Dhulikhel campus:

  • Project Exhibition: Displays of innovative student-developed hardware and software projects.
  • Career Fair: Stalls from over 11 companies for networking, internships, and recruitment opportunities.
  • Panel Discussions: Sessions on “Collaboration Between Government, Industry, and Academia” and the role of AI in transforming local industries.
