Bangkok, Thailand: On the auspicious occasion of Lord Gautam Buddha’s birthday(Buddha Jayanti), the Embassy of Nepal in Bangkok is organizing a Lumbini-Nepal Mini Marathon in Thailand. The event is scheduled to take place in the third week of Baisakh 2083 BS (the first week of May 2026).

The primary objective of the marathon is to publicize Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Gautam Buddha and the fountain of world peace. The mini-marathon will feature two distances: a 10 km run and a 5 km race.

A discussion meeting was held at the Embassy of Nepal in Bangkok today with representatives from various Nepali and international organizations in Thailand, including: Nepal Airlines, Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), Thailand National Coordination Council, People of Nepali Origin Association, Thai-Nepal Association and Thai-Nepal Friendship Association.

Additionally, Nepalis working in UN and international organizations, professors and students from institutions like Asian Institute of Technology, King Mongkut University, and Siam University, representatives of Western Union, and Nepali entrepreneurs attended the meeting.

An organizing committee has been established under the patronage of His Excellency Dhan Bahadur Oli, Ambassador of Nepal to the Kingdom of Thailand, and under the convenorship of Deputy Chief of Mission Moti Bahadur Shrees.

The sub-committees have been formed to manage the program.

Recognizing the marathon program as an effective means of promoting tourism in different countries, this initiative aims to promote Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Gautam Buddha, Nepali tourism, Nepali cuisine, and other cultural and exportable products of Nepal in Thailand.
