NC respects dignity of indigenous people: President Deuba

Kathmandu: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said NC fully respects dignity and rights of indigenous people in Nepal.

Speaking at a programme organized by an NC-affiliated organization of indigenous people on the occasion of the 31st World Indigenous Day here Friday, President Deuba, and also the former Prime Minister, reminded that indigenous peoples’ rights are enshrined in Nepal’s constitution. 

All castes and communities have significant role in social change, he said, adding that the achievements like federalism, republic, secularism, and proportional inclusion were further institutionalized by the new constitution. 

President Deuba further said the very preamble of the constitution clearly stated that all forms of discrimination and oppression needs ceasing for economic equality, prosperity, and social justice. It is being implemented, he argued.

According to him, NC is for preserving and promoting the culture of indigenous peoples in a bid to maintain diverse system.
