Nepal SBI Bank Robbery in Sindhuli: Getaway Driver Arrested, Robbers Still at Large

Kathmandu — Police have arrested the driver of the vehicle used by the robbers involved in the robbery at Nepal SBI Bank in Sindhuli. Police said further investigation into the incident is underway, including questioning bank employees.

According to information provided by local residents, a group of 11–12 people had reserved a vehicle and traveled to Sindhuli to carry out the bank robbery. In his preliminary statement, the arrested driver said the group had come from Banepa. He told police that the vehicle was booked on the pretext of “eloping with a girl.”

Locals said that four of the robbers initially entered the premises through the rear gate of the building housing the bank. They first attacked the security guard. When he tried to resist, the guard, Rudra Karki, had his hand severed. The robbers then took other bank employees under control, tied them up, and threatened them with pistols, demanding the bank keys. The employees were living in the same building where the bank is located.

After looting the bank and fleeing, the employees cried out for help. Once locals became aware of the incident, the robbers fled with whatever cash they could carry, abandoning the vehicle. A sack of cash was left inside the vehicle.

Locals also pelted stones at the robbers as they were seen fleeing with the money. During their escape, the robbers left behind several sacks of cash in the nearby forest. With the help of local residents, the abandoned cash has been collected and handed over to the police.

So far, none of the robbers directly involved in the heist have been arrested. Police have launched a special search operation, and additional police teams from the district have been deployed to the incident site.

All bank employees are currently under police protection and are reported to be safe. Injured security guard Rudra Karki has received primary treatment and is now resting.

Police are currently conducting detailed questioning of the driver regarding the incident. The bank’s central office has been informed, and Nepal Rastra Bank has also taken interest in the matter. The bank said that all information received has been shared with officials at the central bank.
